THE Straits Times Index (STI) ended 10.02 points, or 0.31 per cent, lower to 3,176.35, taking the year-to-date performance to 0.29 per cent.

The FTSE ST Mid Cap Index gained 0.12 per cent while the FTSE ST Small Cap Index declined 0.10 per cent.

Of the actives, SingTel lost 0.54 per cent, DBS climbed 0.23 per cent and UOB lost 1.27 per cent.

The outperforming sectors were represented by the FTSE ST Basic Materials Index, which jumped 0.83 per cent. Its two biggest stocks Midas Holdings was unchanged and Geo Energy Resources was up 3.33 per cent. Agencies
